Department of Science and Technology (DST), Govt of India under its programme on Technology Systems Development (TSD) intends to support and catalyse technology development projects in the upcoming areas of molecular electronics, conducting polymer electronics, non-invasive and other biosensors. The submitted proposal should aim to establish the technical feasibility of emerging concepts in the areas of biomolecular sensors, conducting polymer based microactuators/artificial muscles, molecular electronic devices such as Memory Switching, Logic Gates, Diodes, Organic electronics devices like Light Emitting Diodes (OLEDs), Organic Field Effect Transistors, Organic Thin Film Transistors (OTFTs), Organic Photovoltaics (OPVs), Biofuel Cells, Bio-photonics, Ion Selective FET (ISFET), Electronic-Nose-Tongue-Vision, Bio-metrics, conducting polymer based sensors for Biological Fluids, Bio-chips, Tactile Sensors, Microfluidics, Energy Devices, Super Capacitors, Information storage (memory) devices based on conducting polymers, Self-assembled Monolayers, Langmuir-Blodgett films and other thin films. VISITING FELLOWSHIPS IN JAWAHARLAL NEHRU CENTRE FOR ADVANCED SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH

To foster collaborations with the Centre’s faculty and to provide research opportunities, the Centreoffers Visiting Fellowships to research scientists working in educational institutions and R&D laboratories in India. Visiting fellows are associated with faculty and honorary faculty of the Centre, and the research work is carried out in the host institution in the broad areas of Life Sciences (including molecular and developmental biology, chronobiology, genetics, ecology, behaviour); Materials Sciences (including nanoscience); Chemical Sciences (including solid-state chemistry, theoretical/computational chemistry, and inorganic, physical and organic chemistry); Physical Sciences (including experimental and theoretical condensed-matter and materials physics, statistical physics, organic electronics and experimental nano biotechnology); Engineering Sciences (including fluid dynamics, nonlinear dynamics, and thermal and chemical engineering) and Atmospheric Sciences. The fellowship is tenable for 3 months and the total period of stay in the Centre should be no less than 60 days. The fellowship carries an honorarium of Rs 25,000 per month. DBT India Call for Indo-Danish proposals for strategic research collaboration within biotechnology - a collaboration between the Indian Department of Biotechnology and the Danish Council for Strategic Research 2010

Projects for a period of 3 to 5 years
The Department of Biotechnology and the programme commission will support a joint strategic research project for a period of 3 to 5 years covering direct project costs e.g. research activities, research training (PhDs and post docs), courses and international conferences. The total economical frame is approx. € 2 million.

Objective
For both of the countries it is of major importance to provide solutions by means of biotechnology in order to accommodate challenges related to health, food and bioressources in a sustainable way. The objective is thus through the present joint strategic research programme to strengthen and intensify the research effort within these areas and to integrate the specific competencies of the Indo-Danish research groups involved.

Theme
Funding can be applied for within biotechnology. This includes (not in any order of priority):

  • Bioresources, biological manufacturing and biological products
  • Biotechnology aspects of nanoscience, nanotechnology, bioengineering, and bioinformatics

Selection criteria and evaluation
Final decision on which project to fund will be made jointly by the Department of Biotechnology and the programme commission. When selecting proposals for funding the Department of Biotechnology and the programme commission will focus on (not in any order of priority):

·        The relevance of the project (societal as well as commercial relevance), the project’s effect and the quality of research, as well as the correlation between relevance, effect and research quality as three, equally weighted criteria
·        The strength of the Danish and Indian research groups involved, the quality of the existing Indo-Danish collaboration, and the potential for providing added-value deliverables in a joint collaborative research project
·        Integration of the Indo-Danish research activities as specified in the work plan
·        Managerial and scientific qualifications and experience of the principal applicants, head of research and other key team members
·        Feasibility of the research project (including management and organisation, timetable, milestones, resources and risk and contingency plans)
·        The research project’s strategic significance for the participating parties and the ability to leverage the collaborating expertise for expansion within respective countries.

DBT India call for proposal under Canada India Scientific and Technological Cooperation.
Under the Canada-India Agreement for Scientific and Technological Cooperation, the Governments of Canada and India have agreed to foster joint activities aimed at generating new or expanded research and technology-based partnerships between the two countries (termed Partnership Development Activities or PDAs). 
Nature of Activities

Bilateral Partnership Development Activities (PDAs) aim to generate new or expand existing research and technology-based partnerships between two countries. PDAs may take the form of:
·        Scientific seminars, conferences, symposia and workshops
·        Other joint initiatives that involve exchanges amongst scientists, technical experts and academics.

They bring together researchers, developers, industry leaders, subject matter experts and other stakeholders from a minimum of two jurisdictions to explore novel models of R&D collaboration, and innovative ways to work cooperatively on new technology advancements or solutions to the existing problems. They aim to help participants (from companies, universities and innovation agencies) become more competitive by developing global research-based alliances with the potential to foster increased or expanded international R&D collaboration. Applicants are required to review complete PDA guidelines before developing and submitting a proposal.

This call is open to partnership development activities in all areas of Biotechnology.

Application Submission

The Canadian and Indian PDA leads are required to simultaneously submit a joint PDA application to the program delivery agency in their jurisdiction in an official working language.  Each application must be signed by an official who is legally responsible for the PDA and endorsed by the chief executive or leader of the applicant organization or institute.  Electronic signatures will be accepted on applications submitted to ISTPCanada and DBT.

National Institute of Plant Genome Research invites application for various posts

National Institute of Plant Genome Research, New Delhi is an Autonomous Research Institution funded by Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. of India, to pursue research on various aspects of plant genomics.
