The Process Science Group is looking for a dynamic MS or PhD level Process Biochemist in downstream processing. The individual will be responsible for developing state of the art methodology and tools for the development of robust downstream manufacturing processes.

We are looking for an individual with the following expertise:

• Fundamental understanding of protein solubility
  
• Metabolic and inorganic components of microbial fermentation broth and their interactions with enzymes
  
• Cell lysis, including autolysis and with biochemical and mechanical means
  
• Enzyme degradation and how to avoid it
  
• Flocculation to enhance solid-liquid separations
  

You are willing to be an active participant in the recovery process development group, and cross-functional R&D project teams. You will be involved with the following tasks: • Develop laboratory test methods for protein stability and solubility in biochemically complex, real-world matrices as well as in model systems consisting of purified components • Apply the insights gained in the lab to the development of scalable recovery processes for technical enzymes and transfer these processes to large scale manufacturing • Collaborate with process technicians, upstream fermentation engineers and the entire engineering team in Process Science, as well as members of Genencor’s Research and Global Manufacturing organizations • Prepare technical reports, data summaries, protocols and other technical and regulatory documentations • Mentor junior engineers in the Process Science group on scientific methods in downstream process development
PhD / MS in Biochemistry, Biochemical or Chemical Engineering
The candidate must have demonstrated exceptional capabilities in their educational pursuits and associated work/study programs

We are looking for a talented molecular biologist with a background in bacterial physiology to join a team of scientists working on pathway engineering of microorganisms to make chemical products from renewable resources. The successful candidate will be creative and innovative and enjoy working as an integral part of a team in a fast-paced environment. You will work with a motivated group of biochemists, molecular biologists, and biochemical engineers to dissect, understand and control metabolic processes for the conversion of renewable resources to commodity chemicals. You must have experience in pathway engineering or systems biology. You should have experience in bacterial molecular biology and physiology, and a working knowledge of biochemistry. The candidate should have excellent communication and written skills, supervisory skills would be an asset.

You are degree qualified with at least 2 years of additional practical lab experience in an academic, pharmaceutical or biotechnology setting. The requirements for the position are as follows:
Ph.D. in bacterial physiology, molecular biology or systems biology.
At least 2 years Post-doctoral or practical lab experience in the above areas in academic or industrial lab environment.
The successful candidate should have excellent molecular biology skills, working knowledge of bacterial physiology, computer skills, some biochemistry background desirable.
Ability to excel in a collaborative environment.
Excellent communication skills and the desire to work within a multidisciplinary team are also required.
