Indian Institute of Chemical Biology, Kolkata invites application for Summer Training / Project Work (PW) / Dissertation Work (DW) - 2010



Period of training: March to August 2010 (minimum 2 months maximum 6 months)


Eligibility :

  • The Student must be pursuing Postgraduate course from a recognized University/ institute /college in the relevant area.
  • He/ She must have secured at least 60% marks throughout his/ her academic career (From High School onwards).
  • Training should be essential for the candidate’s course curriculum. [Those who are pursuing undergraduate courses including four years B.Tech programmes are NOT eligible for this Summer Training Programme.]

How to apply

  • BioData and academic records of the Student mentioning percentage of marks obtained in different examinations from school final onwards indicating name of the college/University/Institute where studied. (Do not send photo copy of the results)

1. Name of the post :STAFF SCIENTIST (SCIENCE COMMUNICATION)
Vacancy : one
Responsibility: Providing assistance to the Director and the Centre in various science administration matters including inter alia: preparation and dissemination of the Annual Report and other scientific reports; organising meetings and symposia; looking after arrangements for visitors (ranging from distinguished scientists to school students) to the Centre; interacting with the press and other media; liaising with agencies that provide grants-in-aid for Centre activities; maintaining and updating the Centre’s web ages; and serving as the co-ordinator for activities related to R & D consultancies, contracts or services as well as to intellectual property matters.
Qualification: A Ph.D. in any branch of modern biology, preferably not older than 40 years, with demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills (including use of computers), who possesses a sound training in and understanding of modern biology.
Vacancy for this appointment exists at the level of Staff Scientist – IV in the (pre-revised scale of Rs. 12000-375-16500) revised Scale of Pay of Rs. 15600-39100 with Grade Pay of Rs. 7600/- in the PB–3 Pay Band plus emoluments as admissible to Central Government employees stationed in Hyderabad (at present amounting to Rs. 48744/-inclusive of HRA at the minimum of the scale). Hands-On Training Program In Bioinformatics, Indian Institute of Advanced Research (IIAR)

Bioinformatics Department of Indian Institute of Advanced Research (IIAR) is holding a hands-on-training program on various bioinformatics techniques from November 25-27, 2009 for post-graduate students, faculty members and Industry representatives. The training shall cover major topics like homology search, modeling, docking, phylogeny, comparative genomics. Participants will also be allowed to solve live problems. Few lectures will be delivered by eminent faculties. The fees for the program is Rs. 3000/- per head which cover lunch, tea, etc. Participants will have to make their own arrangements for stay.

Eighth CSIR Diamond Jubilee Invention Award(CDJIA) for School Children-2009

On the occasion of the World Intellectual Property Day which is celebrated through out the world on 26th April, CSIR invites applications for the ‘Eighth CSIR Diamond Jubilee Invention Award(CDJIA) for School Children-2009’. The first prize winner would also become eligible for WIPO’s Young Inventor’s Award carrying a medal and a certificate.
Applicant must provide the details of the invention submitted for the award in not more than 5000 words in English/Hindi including an abstract (in not more than 100 words), authenticated (by giving seal and date) and sent through the Principal/ Head of the School where the student is enrolled and personal details on a separate page as follows:
Name, date of birth, school and residential address, class, telephone no. (residence/school), email address.

Research Opportunities at CSIR Labs for Young Scientists as Senior Research Associates under Scientists’ Pool Scheme in the area of HEALTHCARE, DRUGS & PHARMACEUTICALS

The Senior Research Associateship (SRAship) is primarily meant to provide temporary placement to highly qualified Indian scientists, engineers, technologists, and medical personnel returning from foreign countries who are not holding any employment in India.  Persons, who have not been abroad and possess outstanding academic record and have not been able to secure regular employment, are also eligible for selection.
The other eligibility criteria such as minimum academic score, publications etc, required for applying for Senior Research Associateship are mentioned In the information booklet-cum-application proforma which may be downloadable from Human Resource Development Group (CSIR) web site (www.csirhrdg.res.in).
The programmes covered under this sector include a broad-spectrum of diverse areas.  The priorities relating to diseases/health risks cover a mission programme on Asthma and programmes principally concerned with reproductive health (antifertility agents), tropical infections (antimalarials, antitubercular, antimicrobial agents), ageing-related disorders (antiosteoporotic, antidementia, anti-stress, antidiabetic, antidyslipidemic agents), environmental and industrial health hazards, cataract, tumors and cancers.  The other programmes relate to: antifilarials, hepatoprotectives, antiulcer, anti-inflamatory, antihypertensives, anti-arthritic, biocompatible materials etc.  CSIR has also geared itself in recent advances in biology such as genome sequencing of man and opened up unlimited opportunities in medicine.

NATIONAL ELIGIBILITY TEST (NET), Joint CSIR-UGC Test For Junior Research Fellowship And Eligibility for Lectureship – 20th December, 2009

CSIR will hold the Joint CSIR-UGC Test on Sunday, the 20th December 2009 for determining the eligibility of the Indian national candidates for the award of Junior Research Fellowships (JRF) NET and for determining eligibility for appointment of Lecturers (NET) in certain subject areas falling under the faculty of Science. The award of Junior Research Fellowship (NET) to the successful eligible candidates will depend on their finding admission/placement in a university/ national laboratory/ institution of higher learning and research, as applicable.
SUBJECTS OF THE TEST
The Test will be held in the subjects as given under:
1. Chemical Sciences,
2. Earth Atmospheric Ocean and Planetary Sciences
3. Life Sciences
4. Mathematical Sciences
5. Physical Sciences
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION
M.Sc. or Equivalent degree under the subjects mentioned in para 2.1 above, with minimum 55% marks for General & OBC candidates; 50% for SC/ST candidates, Physically and Visually Handicapped candidates and Ph.D. degree holders who had passed Master's degree prior to 19th September 1991.
A candidate can also apply for the Test under RA (Result Awaited) category, if he/she is appearing or has appeared in his/her final year (III/IV Semester where Semester system is there) of M.Sc. OR equivalent Degree Examination in subjects mentioned in para 2.1 above during the academic Session 2009-2010. Such candidates will have to submit the attestation format (given at the reverse of the application form) duly certified by the Head of the Deptt./Institute over his/her signature and rubber stamp (with address and name) from where the candidate is appearing or has appeared in the final year M.Sc. or equivalent degree examination. However, such candidates shall be admitted to the Test provisionally. They shall only be considered eligible for JRF-(NET)/LS-(NET), if they are able to produce the proof of having passed the Master’s Degree examination in the relevant or related subject with the requisite percentage of marks and within the stipulated time frame.
