Engineer, Microbial Physiology/Fermentation USA, California, Palo Alto

We are currently seeking a dynamic individual to join our Metabolic Engineering and Fermentation group as an Engineer.

We are looking for an outstanding candidate who will be involved with the following tasks and responsibilities:
Assist in the development of fermentation processes for biomolecules produced by microbial cultures, including both bacterial and fungal systems
Develop a predictive bench-scale system to predict larger scale fermentation results
Install, maintain and use analytical equipment such as HPLC and mass spec.
Organize and characterize the organisms used in the fermentation processes
Collaborate with process technicians, molecular biologists and microbiologists, downstream recovery engineers as well as other members of Genencor’s Research and Global Supply organizations

You are degree qualified with the following skills and attributes:

• BS or MS in Biochemical or Chemical Engineering or a related field
  
• The candidate must have demonstrated exceptional capabilities in their educational pursuits and associated work/study programs
  
• Hands-on experience is a plus
  
• Willingness to work on analytical equipment, and to develop methods
  
• Strong written and verbal communication skills (including writing of technical reports), strong attention to detail
  
• Desire to work within a multidisciplinary team.
  
• 0-3 years bio-processing industrial experience
  
• Self starter with good organizational, analytical and problem solving skills
  
• Some travel required
